Rifampicin is an antibiotic solution that inhibits bacterial RNA polymerase, effectively halting RNA synthesis. In molecular biology research, it is used to study bacterial gene expression and transcription mechanisms, and is also leveraged to minimize bacterial contamination. This antibiotic solution is affective against types of gram positive and gram negative bacteria, as well as some types of mycobacteria.
