Hygromycin B is an aminocyclitol antibiotic that inhibits protein synthesis in a broad range of cell types. It is frequently used as a selection agent for stably transformed or transfected cells carrying the hygromycin resistance (hph) gene across bacterial, plant, and mammalian systems.
